R. Carter Scott of Transformations Inc. is Odonata’s green developer. Carter has recently been featured in Solar Today magazine as a leading contender in the Massachusetts Zero Energy Challenge. A net zero energy home produces as much energy as it uses, so the owner purchases no energy on an annual basis.

Carter’s model net-zero home is located in Townsend, MA. Most of the home’s energy needs are met by a hybrid photovoltaic-solar water-heating system. Other features include a super-insulated building envelope with outstanding R-values, triple pane, low-E windows, low-energy ventilation and a Mitsubishi air source heat pump, which also provides efficient air conditioning. Says Carter: ” It has been incredibly satisfying to design and build a home that will essentially emit no greenhouse gases and cost the homeowner next to nothing for their heating, air conditioning and electrical usage. If we can build an affordable zero-energy home with adequate heating through the harsh New England winters, can a national movement to ZEHs be far behind ?” |
