Odonata's Mission Statement

The mission statement helps us take steps along the path, and shines light upon it. This is the way in which we walk, and describes how we intend to manifest our Vision in the world.

Sustainable Design and Construction

  • shared energy systems and facilities (laundry, kitchen and dining)
  • green building techniques, renewable and durable materials, clustered homes to conserve land
  • beautiful and inspiring structures
  • community center/gathering place/public education center
  • 10% affordable housing
  • 24-32 households located in Essex County 

Holistic Lifestyle

  • employ conscious communications, using consensus and conflict resolution
  • build community through common projects, regularly scheduled communal meals, celebration of life events
  • composting, common gardens, and cooperative purchase of regional and organic foods
  • practice conservation by sharing our resources and reducing our consumerism
  • encourage healthful lifestyles – yoga, organics, holistic healing
  • sound financial planning and a stable economic foundation for our activities
  • promote cooperative economic ventures and employment opportunities
  • create a supportive environment for all generations, and for the raising of children

Connection to Spirit

  • respect the universal wisdom that underlies diverse spiritual traditions
  • encourage individual spiritual inquiry and share regular spiritual practices
  • host teachers and artists for events which inspire and nourish us
  • create sacred spaces: a meditation room, retreat hut, labyrinth, peace garden

Education and Social Action

  • address regional, national and global concerns
